Own Your Female Strength

Society’s expectations of women are to be delicate and thin and to stay away from weightlifting. In addition, men and even other women say that women aren’t strong enough to weight-lift. I planned to use the negative stereotypical comments that female weightlifters face and to juxtapose them with personal statements from women who have gone against the grain to encourage others to own their female strength.

In order to do this, I used the tool of red acetate to show both views: an outsider who doesn’t appreciate women weightlifting and actual women who weight-lift. The result was a way to show how women should be able to be seen as girls even if they lift weights.
